Bible Pickin’s – Genesis pt 2

Adam and Eve did some begatting. Eve gave birth to two sons: Cain, the tiller of the ground, and Abel, the keeper of the sheep.
Cain killed Abel.
{4:16} And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the East of Eden. {4:17} And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch. {4:18} And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat….

Okay, either all these stories are all myths or the events really happened. I’m thinking the stories are myths. How can Cain leave the presence of the (omnipresent) LORD? I thought God was everywhere? Where does Cain’s wife come from? From who’s rib was she made? God remains mute on this subject.

{6:5} to {9:15} In a nutshell: God saw that HIS creation was corrupt and filled with violence. He wanted to cleanse the Earth. Genocide, in the form of a great flood, was the method He chose to rid the pestilence that scurried across the Earth.
God liked Noah so He told him to build an ark. Noah and his family boarded the vessel followed by two representatives of every living creature that God was about to kill. Why would God do that? You’d think that since He’s drowning the crop of critters, (man was created just like the beasts) bugs and plants that were defective, He’d replant the Earth with an improved stock instead of reseeding the Earth with the same bad critters, bugs and plants.

How can an omniscient, omnipotent, and perfect deity create an imperfect world? The world’s imperfections can’t have anything to do with free will because all the critters (except for man), bugs and plants that are being killed do not have free will.

It began to rain. The flood waters cover the Earth and all of God’s critters drown, except for those on the ark and the fish in the sea.

When the flood waters receded Noah and his family started begatting, which means we are ALL descendants of that incestuous family.

Before I outline Sodom’s moral tale I’d like to look at sentence {8:18}. Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation; and all the nations of the Earth shall be blessed by him?”
The writer is telling us that Abraham isn’t a man. Abraham is a nation. Or is Abraham both a man and a nation? If he is both how can that be? How can a myth be infallible?

{18:16} to {19:38} In a nutshell: Not long after repopulating the Earth with the same bad seed that he had drowned God notices that (surprise surprise) Sodom is corrupt. God decides to destroy Sodom. But, for some inexplicable reason, Abraham challenges God’s decision to level Sodom. Abraham asks God if He would destroy Sodom if there were fifty righteous people living there. After giving it some thought God says he would
not destroy Sodom if fifty righteous people lived there.
Abraham: How about 45 righteous people?
God: I would not destroy Sodom.
Abraham: How about 30?
God: No.
Abraham: Twenty?
God: Nope.
Abraham: Okay, how about ten righteous people?
God walked away.
Abraham saved Sodom.

God reconsidered His decision not to turn Sodom into a parking lot for camels. He sent two angels down to Earth to get the job done. On the eve of destruction the angels arrived at Lot’s house. He welcomed them into his home. Lot made a feast and baked unleavened bread. While they were preparing to go to bed the men of Sodom showed up at Lot’s house. Lot went outside to talk to the men. They demanded to see the “men which come in to thee this night.” They wanted to know (have sex) the angels. Lot was shocked by such a request and did the only thing a character in a fairy tale written in the Bronze Age could do: he offered his virgin daughters to the men. This was boys night out and they wanted “in.” The angels pulled Lot into the house and slammed the door shut. They struck the men of Sodom with blindness so that they could not find Lot’s door.

The next morning the angels told Lot to take his wife and daughters out of Sodom. They warned the Lot family to not look back as they fled. The LORD rained fire and brimstone on Sodom and Gomorra (odd, Gomorra wasn’t mentioned in the text until now). Lot’s wife took a peak behind her. She turned into a pillar of salt.
Lot and his two daughters high-tailed it into the mountains. They found shelter in a cave. The elder daughter decided to get her father liquored up and have sex with the man to preserve his seed. The next night the younger daughter had sex with the old drunk. They both bore a son: Moab and Benammi.

It’s funny. A relegion (not a typo) was born from the Old Testament. The believers of this relegion are absolutely certain that their holy book makes them moral. Since I don’t buy into this holy literature I am a heathen or atheist.
Is the story of Lot offering his virgin daughters to men who want to rape two angels truly a moral tale?
Is the tale of the drunken father knocking up his daughters something we should be reading to our children?

I think not…
